First avenue, Hove

A large one bedroom flat in Hove that had not been modernised for quite a number of years. The project was to entirely refurbish the flat, but within a limited budget of 6,500. This was achieved well within the target. Here are a selection of pictures of the flat upon completion. The investment of 6,500 increased the value of the flat by 25,000.

The Hall.

The hall was mainly repainted. The woodwork was painted brilliant white, and the walls are a classic cream colour. The rugs were bought from Habitat. Halogen lighting was added, and mirrors used to reflect light into the hall. Door furniture is all chrome.

The Lounge.

The main walls were painted a light blue colour, and the end wall a slightly darker blue. The woodwork was painted brilliant white. This gave a feeling of lightness and space, but not cavernous to an already very large room. The carpet is a light oatmeal Berber Twist. Door furniture and electrical sockets are all chrome. Roller blinds in royal blue were added to the windows.

The Main Bedroom.

The main walls were painted classic cream, and the woodwork is brilliant white. The flooring is sanded original floorboarding. Door furniture and electrical sockets are all chrome. Cream curtains were added to the windows and chrome window furniture was fitted.

The Kitchen.

The Kitchen required a complete refit. A new kitchen was ordered, new flooring added and new lighting added (halogen). Subsequently, it was decided to added under and over cupboard lighting. The effect of this can be seen further down the page.

Kitchen Lighting.

The kitchen has very high ceilings, and we decided to add lighting, not just below the cupboards, but over them as well. Each set of lights is operated independantly, and you can see the effects in the pictures of using just the blue lights at twilight and when darkness falls. The effect is created by covering the lighting tubes with coloured acetate film. The advantage of this is that it is very simple and cheap to change the colour and effect of the lighting.

The Bathroom.

The bathroom suite was avocado ! The walls and woodwork were painted white and a white suite added. Chrome fittings added. The flooring is Italian marble in a smokey grey finish. Quite expensive, but a bathroom like this does not require a large amount. The coloured shapes were hand painted onto the wall to add colour and give a feeling of width to a very narrow room.
